An ever increasing use of computer generated
special effects - from those added to live-action scenes, to
those creating complete imaginary 3D worlds and the recent amazing
realistic looking human characters - means that film, television,
graphic art and visual design will never be the same! The top
animation and special effects software in the world has been
created and developed in Canada! Many of the best animation
and effects artists are Canadian or Canadian trained!
The Academy has become a leading animation educator in Canada
with its Computer Animation program. The program combines an
innovative blend of both artistic and technical courses designed
to catalyze creative visual art and design abilities yet harness
the practical animation skills necessary to getting the industry's
attention! Courses provide intensive training in the entire
cycle of pre-production/visualization, production and post-production
resulting in each student producing a demo reel, the short 1-2
minute video is a showcase of their growing talents and skills.
Beginning with an introduction to 3D-Computer Animation, Life
Drawing and Figure Sculpture, students discover the fundamentals
of character development, scripting and story boarding. Then,
different styles of animation, how visual stories are constructed
and how special effects techniques are currently used in film
and television are explored. Students later create an original
character, animate and give it life!
Students successfully completing the program will graduate with
a diploma and a professionally produced portfolio of their own
work that includes their demo-reel in the critical component
required by industry employers when making hiring decisions!
Television and film are not the only industries in need of highly
skilled professionals trained in the art and science of computer
animation. Careers as diverse as industrial design, marketing,
advertising and promotion, real estate development, scientific
and medical research, law enforcement and forensic sciences
are also exciting fields where graduates can develop successful
